2022 Recap: A Collective journey of HOT Tasking Manager

Ohh, What a year it has been!

Tasking Manager, we believe, is more than just a software as the people improving, maintaining, and especially using it are the foundation of everything. As the next step in the TM Tomorrow journey, HOT took a new direction towards a more community-focused, inclusive, and collective-centric approach to its technology. As a result, the Tasking Manager Tech Collective was established with the goal of making Tasking Manager a project led by the community and amplified by hot_tech. In February 2022, Kathmandu Living Labs(KLL) was officially onboarded as the first member of the tech collective and began handling the role of Tasking Manager’s maintenance. Since then, lots of things have happened. From bringing RapiD(an AI-enabled editor to identify roads and buildings) editor into TM to adding amazing features like a simple radio button to mark all tasks at once as validated, lots of new changes can be seen. We launched monthly tech collective meetups and started writing monthly updates blogs too. Read our previous blog here. Below are the highlights of every month from 2022:

Community brings connection and helps connect the dots. And, we must say, we have an amazing community of Tasking Manager enthusiasts who are a major part of value-led growth. We also feel collective meetups have played a vital role. Meetups are an opportunity to see each other and share our experiences and challenges. We dig into issues and try to understand the complexity, their needs, and the way forward. In our last tech collective meetup in November, we asked our community members about their experience so far, what particular updates they enjoyed in 2022, what they like about meetups, and what suggestions they want to give for the future. Interesting inputs were received, which you can see in the below screenshots:

As we look ahead to new improvements in 2023, we want first to celebrate this year’s accomplishments. We had 9 collective meetups, 1 at the local level in Nepal. We are also happy to share that we have been able to work on 80+ Github issues so far bringing updates and features where some of them have been discussed in the meetups and requested by our own community. As we reflect on the past year, we can’t help but be grateful for your continuous support. We must say we had an amazing journey as a tech collective. There have been challenges and great learnings, but we are grateful for all the support and acceptance we have received. We would like to thank our mappers, validators, community, open-source developers, individual contributors, and everyone who contributed directly and indirectly to this shared vision of the collective. Thanks to everyone who has been a part of our collective meetups, not just meetups but also all the valuable inputs and feedback we get in slack or GitHub. Also, huge thanks to everyone for filling up the form regarding the roadmap. We received 40+ submissions. Now, we are drafting a roadmap based on the inputs received. A draft roadmap will be shared for community discussion in the upcoming quarter.
