Colombia subcategory

Category name

Is this a top-level category or a subcategory?

This should be under “Latam” Category

Description of its purpose and which open mapping groups it will serve

In this category, we will discuss elements related to the country, Colombia, about its tagging guidelines, local projects, etc.

Why is this new category needed instead of being hosted as part of the existing ones?

Because each country has its own issues, and having all the Colombian ones under this category allows to have a more clear discussion.

Is this a new space or does it already exist on other platforms? Where?

Colombia as category exist in mailing list, telegram channel, twitter and facebook account. However, there are questions specific to Colombia, and it is better to tag them with an appropriate category.

Current volume of messages on the former platforms, if any (per week/per month)

In telegram we have approximately 1 big discussion weekly, where many contributors give their opinions.

Is there a transition plan for the old platform to this new one? (please link or describe)

The mailing list is not very active. Telegram is quite active, but sometimes discussions are lost in the chat history. Me and other OSMColombia leaders, could encourage people to start discussions here.

(Optional) A link or list of the category specific guidelines

Every person who start contributing in this category should have a description where it is working (city, company) in order to identify its background. Also, the OSM user is recommended to be included in the Discourse profile.

List the usernames of the category moderators

  • Risturiz Rafael has been starting to work on the Colombian community and he always looks for a neutral language and integrating message.
  • Humano Fredy has been working on OSM Colombia since the first contributions. He is the manager of most of the communication channels: telegram, Twitter, mailing list.
  • afgb Felipe is one of those new mappers that want to contribute in all elements of the community. This allows to have a different perspective from the other contributors.
  • NicoVargas has contributed in the biggest projects of the Colombian community, and he looks different ways to build a better community.
