HOT Mapathon: Libya Floods 2023
On Tuesday 10th October from 9:00 – 10:30 (GMT) Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team
(HOT) will be hosting an online mapathon to improve OpenStreetMap in flood affected areas in Libya to assist in disaster response on the ground.

The event is online only, we recommend you join the event with a mouse and a laptop or desktop.
Schedule:
• First 10 minutes - Intro and information about the Libya Flood mapping project
• Next 60 minutes:
➼ Join a breakout for step-by-step walkthrough of how to map for beginners
➼ Or join a breakout for learning more advanced mapping on JOSM
➼ Or just stay in the lobby to get on with mapping if you already know how!
• Final 20 minutes - Keep mapping and wrap-up

In response to the devastating impact of Storm Daniel in northeastern Libya, this project aims to provide crucial mapping support for disaster relief and recovery efforts in the affected areas. The storm, which made landfall on September 10, 2023, has caused widespread destruction, including heavy rainfall, flash floods, and significant damage to infrastructure and communities in several municipalities in the region. The affected municipalities include Albayda, Almarj, Al Owailia, Albayda, Benghazi, Derna, Shahhat, Sousa, Taknes, Talmeitha, Tobruk, and Toukra.
